Republican policies, with support from the religious right cause misery and the destruction of unborn children:

1. Opposition to school sex education programs that emphasize masturbation as a safe alternative, and access to contraception causes uninformed teens to have unplanned pregnancies and to contract deadly sexually transmitted diseases.

2. Opposition to national health care funding and paid maternity leave programs leaves many women no choice but to end their pregnancy with a less costly abortion instead of carrying the child to term.

3. The religious right's view that premarital sex is "wrong" instead of a natural and beautiful aspect of life causes women to feel shame, which motivates them to hide their "sin" by aborting their children, often at late stages of pregnancy.

4. Welfare reform and the reduction of aid to families with dependent children encourages women to end their pregnancy instead of bringing their child into the world with no means of financial support.

5. Opposition to higher minimum wage laws hurts women, who represent the majority of minimum wage earners. This leaves low wage earners no choice but to abort their child.

6. Opposition to affirmative action  programs causes minority women to earn less than white males, thus leaving them unable to support their households. This leads to increased abortions within minority communities.

7. Conservative-supported corporate downsizing causes wage earners to lose the ability to support their families, thus encouraging more abortions.

8. Republican opposition to school lunch programs causes women to wonder if their unborn child will receive one decent meal per day, thus forcing them to choose abortion rather than bringing a child whom they know will go hungry into the world.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

What YOU Can Do To Stop The Killing

Democats for Life supports common-sense legislation that will provide realistic sex education for young people, so that they will be able to make informed decisions and reduce unwanted pregnancies.

Democats for Life supports legislation restoring and increasing social services for poor and working families, such as maternity care and parental leave, food and affordable housing, so that it will be possible for them to bring their unborn children to full term.

Democats for Life supports the adoption of the Swedish model for parental leave, which has led to a dramatic decrease in the number of abortions. This model, practiced throughout most of the industrialized world, provides 18 months of paid maternity leave which can be divided between both parents. This gets children off to a healthy start, which greatly reduces their chances of becoming juvenile criminals or having unwanted teenage pregnancies. 

Ask yourself, "Would a woman who knows that she will receive a guaranteed salary for the first 18 months of her child's life choose to abort her baby?"

If you believe that the abortion rate should be reduced, if you believe that children should spend their formative years with their parents, if you believe that school children should be guaranteed at least one nutritious meal per day, contact your representative and insist that he show his support for family values and the value of human life by opposing conservative fiscal and social policies that encourage abortion.
